| We
are a local charity organisation made up of local people who
volunteer their time and energy to help make it the success
that it has now become. Our aim is to relieve some of the financial
burden from local families who have children with special needs.
We offer support in the following ways, keeping within an allotted
amount per anniversary year:
Transport
For families that need to travel to Sydney or Canberra for
medical treatment, we provide fuel cards.
Accommodation
When those medical treatments require overnight stays in Sydney,
we help with the cost of accommodation at Ronald McDonald
House or at a private motel.
Medical Equipment
For the times when medical equipment is needed,
we assist in the purchase of the equipment that is relevant
to each child’s specific needs.
Clothing
Convoy pays up to a set amount per year for clothing for the
child in need.
Car Repairs
With all the travailing our clients do taking their children
to specialists we now help out with car repairs up to a set
amount per year.
Chemist Bills
Convoy will pay half of the chemist bills related to the child
in need.
Convoy History
The Goulburn Convoy was started after a local driver saw the
Sydney Convoy in 1999. For the first three years Convoy came
under the banner of the NSW Cancer Council. In 2002 we became
Convoy for Kids Goulburn Inc., to ensure that funds raised
stayed in the local area and are not affiliated with any other
Convoy or organisation in Australia.
Convoy Day
Our Annual Convoy Day is held on the 2nd Saturday
of November each year.
Due to the ever-increasing number of trucks
and visitors, the Convoy will parade through the main street,
starting at the Goulburn Gateway Service Station and finish
at Goulburn's Belmore Park for a family fun day which consists
of kids entertainment, BBQ, market stalls, music and entertainment.
There,
the trucks will be assembled in Market and Montague Street for viewing and judging.
Celebrity trucks have included Rodney Crick’s Shell
Race truck and Prime’s DIY truck.
We also hope to have the return of the Carlton United “Beer
Academy” and the famous Clydesdale horses.
Our auction is always a popular event and
some donated autographed items from past Convoy Days include:
a copy of an All Saints episode, Canberra Raiders jersey,
Peter Brock photographs, autographed CD by Phil Collins and
an autographed photograph of Peter Gabriel, just to name a
few.
Meetings
Our committee meetings are
held on the 1st Tuesday of each month,
7pm at the Goulburn Workers Club.
The public are welcome to attend.
Membership
We are always looking for new members and volunteers and our
fees are: $10.00 for the first year then $2.00 for each year
after that. All members will receive our newsletter.
Junior
Membership
We are now offering a junior membership at: $5.00 for the
first year and $1.00 for each year after that.
Projects
Other projects we have undertaken are to purchase specialised
equipment for the Crescent Special School, and to paint the
family room at the children’s ward at the Goulburn Base
Hospital, this year we aim to redesign the outside play area
of the Children’s Ward.
