The Abbeyfield Model:
- 1956: Introduced to the UK
- 1980's: Initiated in Australia to provide affordable group housing for older Australians in need seeking companionship and support in a community in which they have links
- 2005: Abbeyfield concept used to provide housing for disabled persons in Curtin ACT
- 2009: Abbeyfield Goulburn formed to bring Abbeyfield concept to Goulburn
The Abbeyfield Concept:
- Affordable, not for profit
- Independence and personal space in a shared house
- Privacy and companionship
- Meals and support
- Accommodation within the local community
Abbeyfield Disability Goulburn believes:
- People with disabilites welcome companionship, practical support and security in their daily lives
- People with disabilities have an important place in their lives of their families, friends and the community.
- People with disabilities enjoy a fulfilling and happy like sharing with others but enjoying a level of independence commensurate with their needs.
Residents benefit from privacy and security:
- Privacy and Security: each resident has a locakable bedroom, with additional outside access. Security in the knowledge that other residents are always around.
- Affordable: Fortnightly payments cover accommodation, all meals, laundry and household expenses.
- Housekeeping assistance: The housekeeper sleeps in a separate flat on the premises and is available for emergency situations.
